Write An Artist Bio (and more!)

Whether you’re a new hot mess or a creative pro, every artist* needs to write a biography (or update older bios). There are suggested guidelines, like this one from Artwork Archive and Light, Space, & Time, but to keep my bio fresh, I’ll sometimes write one for specific creative opportunities, like for applications for grants, fellowships, and residencies. This is my process:
